Distances. Kilometres, borders, continents, oceans. Languages. There are many things that can divide people and nations. And then again, there are many things that can draw us closer, exercise mutual attraction and make us realise that the distances are not so large and that we are closer than we had imagined to start with.
The cinema as an expression of a nation’s culture is a window to other cultures and other times. It enables us for a brief moment to look out and see a different reality, one that may appear distant but only at first glance. This is given because a film tells us about lives, about love, laughter, tears, death. It ultimately comes down to the fact that it is an expression of the soul which has no frontiers.
The Argentinian Embassy in the Czech Republic is honoured that it can together with Lucerna Palace present the 8th edition of the Week of Argentinian Films, a cultural event that has by now become a clear symbol of the closeness of the Argentinian and the Czech cultures. A cultural tradition that draws us closer and reminds us that this is a journey that we do not undertake alone and our origins are irrelevant. All those kilometres, countries and oceans are not numerous enough to keep us apart.
